Jim Kokinos passed away at St. Francis Hospital, surrounded by family, on May 11, 2019, at the age of 71.
Born in Monroe on September 27, 1947, to Deno and Cynthia Kokinos, he was the oldest of six children. He graduated from Neville High School in 1965 and Northeast Louisiana University in 1971.
Jim was a lifelong entrepreneur. He owned and operated successful clothing stores, a furniture store and a real estate business. He embraced his creative side and enjoyed hobbies that included photography, reading and rehabbing old houses.
Jim loved spending time with family and friends, and especially enjoyed fishing and spending time on the water with his two grandsons. He never met a stranger and loved to exchange stories about the “old days.” He had the ability to see the good in people, and his kindness and compassion were evident in the way he lived.
Jim will be lovingly remembered by his daughter, Nichole Bice; and son, James (Linda) Kokinos; grandsons, Baylor and Griffin Bice; brothers, Deno, and Phillip (Robin); sisters, Pam (Scotty) Dyer and Amanda (Chad) Looney; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he cherished. He was predeceased by his parents, Deno and Cynthia; and brother, Bill.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Those wishing to honor his life can make a memorial contribution to the Salvation Army at http://salvationarmyalm.org/monroe/.
