Funeral services for James H. Bryant, Sr., 84, of Monroe, Louisiana will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, May 20, 2020, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Fr. Paul Thudurparampil officiating. Interment will follow in the Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Monroe, Louisiana. Visitation services will be held at 10:00 AM until time of service. Due to recent COVID-19 regulations, the funeral home is allowing a limited number of people to attend.
James H. Bryant, Sr. aka $2 bill man passed away at home on Saturday, May 16, 2020 from a lengthy illness at the age of 84. He was known for giving kids a $2 bill when he was out eating.
James was in the Marine Corp for six years. He cut meat when he was young and worked at Piggly Wiggly where he became market manager for many years before he started working for Manville Paper Company, where he retired after twenty-seven years.
James was a parishioner of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and enjoyed reading the newspaper daily. His hobbies included fishing, playing poker, collecting coins, feeding his pet squirrels, and traveling. He loved Ireland and wanted to return one day. Highlights of his travels included kissing the Blarney Stone in Ireland and riding camels in Egypt.
James was preceded in death by two sons, James H. Bryant, and Michael Bryant; son-in-law, Thomas Gray; and his parents, Bessie Elizabeth Bryant Britton and Horval Hamilton Bryant; siblings, Davis Bennett, Jr., Gladys Haralson, Louis Bennett, Louise “Lois” Gann, and Lamar Bryant.
He will be missed by his loving wife of sixty-six years, Elsie Jane Green Bryant; daughter, Sandra Gray; son, Louis “Tony” Bryant and wife, Kathy; daughters -in-law, Krisan Bryant, and Sharon Bryant; grandchildren, Nicholas Gray and wife, Amanda, Joshua Bryant and wife, Miranda, Robert Bryant and wife, Angela, Pamela Cestia and husband, Tyler, and Holly Bryant; great-grandchildren, Katelyn Bryant, Christopher Bryant, Elizabeth Bryant, John Michael Cestia, and Thomas Allen Cestia; brothers, Harvey “Sam” Bryant and wife, Barbara, David Wesley Bryant and wife, Kathy; and sister-in-law Ann Cox. There are also many nieces and nephews left to cherish his memory, but most of all “BB” his favorite grand dog.
Pallbearers will be Charles Hamby, Don Howe, Rodney Cox, Robby Bryant, Nick Gray, and Josh Bryant.
