Mr. Holmes was born February 3, 1952, in Monroe, LA and passed away December 11, 2023.

Jim, 71, a lifelong resident of Monroe, LA was a member of Covenant Presbyterian Church. Jim excelled at sales in the oil and gas, and insurance industries as a career, however, his true passions were his family and the outdoors, spending several years as a private duck guide. Jim was a passionate LSU football fan and an avid (and very successful) fisherman and duck hunter. He spent countless hours perfecting his skills so that he could share his passion with his two sons and grandson. Jim and his wife, Mary, had a special place in their heart for Lake Bruin. Together they spent many years making wonderful memories with family and friends at their camp on Lake Bruin.  Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend known for his kindness and generosity towards everyone around him regardless of their social status. He had a true gift of making everyone feel special and loved. His perfectly timed sense of humor would always brighten any day. These amazing qualities and passions will be greatly missed, however they set a perfect example for his family to follow in his footsteps.

Mr. Holmes was preceded in death by his parents, James Edward Holmes Jr. and June Sherrouse Holmes as well as his twin granddaughters, Scarlett Rose Holmes and Stella Jane Holmes.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Scallan Holmes; sons, Jim Ed Holmes and wife Beth; Jack Winston Holmes and wife Laura; grandchildren, Gunnar Hayes Holmes, Delta June Holmes and Savannah Beth Holmes; brother, John Charles Holmes; and sister, Charlotte Holmes Primos.

Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Fordham, Frank Hewitt, Steve Sutton, Kevin Hudson, Jimmy Hewitt, Cary Zeagler, Pat Scallan, Eddie Davidson, Johnny Portman, Greg Green, and Pat Stewart.

Jim’s family would like to extend special thanks to Jimmy Fordham, a dear friend and fishing buddy to Jim. Jimmy brought forth a lot of peace in Jim’s life that would not have been possible without him. Some of Jim’s happiest days over the past few years were the results of many of their incredible fishing trips.  The family is eternally grateful for his friendship. They would also like to thank Annalese and Caitlin from Elara Caring as well as Leesa and Dara from Mulhearn’s Funeral Home; as well as Rev. John Mabray. Their kindness is greatly appreciated.
