James was born on March 22, 1933, in Winnsboro, LA, and passed away peacefully at his home on August 23, 2018, surrounded by his loving family. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
Starting with 2 rolls of dimes and a barber's license, James married the love of his life, Patricia Rose Corrent Harper, in 1956. He immediately became a father to her sons, Patrick and Marty Ramsey. James and Patricia had three children of their own, Jamie, Sheryl, and Rick. Their marriage continued in love for 61 years, bearing numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He went to work faithfully every morning for 58 years at his shop, James Harper’s Barber Shop. He had a special relationship with every customer that walked through the door. He greeted everyone with a handshake or hug. His customers enjoyed visiting with him. He also served his country as a member of the Army. James loved gardening, wearing overalls, telling jokes, sharing stories full of wisdom, and saving money. James was the strong, tall oak tree of his family.
