A family memorial service for James G. “Jay” Mitchell, III, 58, of West Monroe, will be held at a later date at the Mitchell Family Farm in Grayson, LA. The farm is a very special place of refuge, where Jay spent many hours on the trails. He will always be remembered as a trail blazer in his own right.
Jay was born April 20, 1959, in New Orleans, LA, and passed away March 28, 2018, at his residence in West Monroe. He was a graduate of West Monroe High School and also attended ULM. Jay was a skilled carpenter by trade, whose talent was evident across Northeast Louisiana in the commercial and residential construction industry. He was an avid collector throughout his lifetime; his most prized possessions were his arrowheads, soda pop bottles and antique metal toys. Jay was a friend to all.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J. Gordon Mitchell, Jr. and Colleen K. Mitchell of West Monroe.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra C. Mitchell; son, Kasey Stansell; stepchildren, Kenny Cichocki and wife Kayla, and Scott Cichocki; special granddaughter, Kylie Cichocki; sister, Tina M. Smith and husband Jeff; brother, Don Mitchell and wife Gina; nieces, Anne Marie Jackson and husband Austin, Addison Smith and Meredith Mitchell; nephew, James Mitchell; great niece, Olivia Jackson; and several special aunts and cousins.
