Funeral services for Mr. James Earl Flint, 87, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, February 4, 2024, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd., Monroe, LA with Rev. Warren Eckhardt officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, LA. Visitation will be held from 12:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home.

 

James Flint met the love of his life, Sallie Pohl Flint, when he went to Start High School. Upon his graduation in 1957, he had a scholarship to NLU where he ran track for 2 years. Then he enlisted in the Army in 1959 where he served in the Korean War and then was rewarded a Bronze Medal for his actions in the Vietnam War – followed by multiple tours in Germany. Known as a jack of all trades, for a short while he was a carpenter till, he re-enlisted with the Army National Guard when he was deployed to help with the building of the Panama Canal. After retiring from the National Guard, he worked for the United States Postal Service where he took immense pride in his job.

 

He and his wife got married April 21, 1961, and had 2 daughters whom he loved dearly. Throughout their lives, he coached many of their sport teams and activities. He was known for his love of baseball, softball, soccer and any of his children’s and grandchildren’s activities. James loved to take camping trips with his wife and children, and then later shared that love with his grandchildren. 

 

Mr. Flint is preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Pearl Flint; his siblings Lajuana and husband Jackie Henry, Bo Flint, and infant brother; mother and father In-law, Jerry and Lenora Pohl; brother-in-law, Bobby Pohl; brother and sister-in-laws, Ray and Lidice Broussard, Melvin and Georgie Menke; and sister-in-law, Patsy Rowland.

 

He is survived by his wife of nearly 63 years, Sallie Pohl Flint; his daughters, Jerri and husband Richard Edmiston, Stacey and husband Justin Murphey; his and Sallie’s beloved pet companions, Roscoe and Lexi; grandchildren, Wesley Blackmon (Gabrielle), Dylan Edmiston (Lauren), Amber Posey (Heath), Cody Edmiston, Heather Murphey, Andrew Murphey, Melanie Murphey; great-grandsons, Slade Cooper and Oliver Blackmon; sister, Barbara Ann Flint; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

 

Pallbearers include Kevin Henry, Geoffrey Henry, Kaleb Henry, Jason Broussard, Derek Pohl, and David May. 

 

Honorary Pallbearers include Bobby Pohl, Jackie Henry, Bo Flint, Ray Broussard, Charlie Rowland and Casey Barton.
