Funeral Services for James Everett Watkins, 87, of West Monroe, LA will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, February 2, 2014 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe with Rev. Waymond Warren officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Calhoun, LA.
James Everett Watkins was born May 31, 1926 and passed away on January 31, 2014. He was a member of Fair Park Baptist Church and past master and member of the Western Star Masonic Lodge. James was a newspaper pressman with the News Star and was president of his Pressman Union AFLCIO. He was a one-time president of the Central Trades and Labor Council and was state vice president of the AFLCIO under the Victor Bussey Administration. James retired from the Guide Plant in Monroe after 16 years as a machine operator. Preceding him in death are his parents, William R. Watkins and Irene Watkins; sister, Wanda Lou Palmer; and brother, Wayne Watkins.
Survivors include his wife, Merline Watkins; children, Janet Wesselhoft, Terry Watkins and wife, Marilyn, Russell Watkins and wife, Denise and Michael Simpson and wife, Maria; nine grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty Jo Johnson of Kearny, MO.
Pallbearers will be Scott Lavoie, William Watkins, Kevin Yerger, Michael Smith, Jamie Watkins and Carl R. Smith.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
