Graveside Services for James Elvin “Jet” Tullis, 89, of West Monroe, LA will be 2:00PM Wednesday, February 20, 2013 at Hasley Cemetery, West Monroe with Rev. Michael Stravato officiating under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
Mr. Tullis passed from this life on February 17, 2013 at the Northeast Louisiana War Veterans Home after a lengthy illness, to live a life of eternity with his savior Jesus Christ.
He was born in Lillie, LA on August 19, 1923. He retired from Graphic Packaging Paper Mill in West Monroe. Mr. Tullis was a World War II Veteran serving in the U.S. Army. His battles and companies included Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhinland, and Central Europe. He received decorations of Eameto Med, and World War II Victory Medal. Mr. Tullis was shot one time although not critical which earned him the Purple Heart. While training in Camp Shelby, MS before leaving New York Harbor on the Queen Mary along with 22, 000 other soldiers on their way to fight World War II.
Mr. Tullis was truly a family man, always willing to help people in his family and also his wife’s family. Among his friends, he enjoyed lending a hand. He never tried to acquire wealth, just working hard to provide for his family and only wanted happiness.
Mr. Tullis is preceded in death by his parents, James Elijah Tullis and Mellie Garner Tullis; sisters, Aline, Ada, and Vada; brothers, Warren, Brodie, and Jo Frank Tullis.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Mildred Tullis; son, Scott Tullis and wife Lisa; grandson, Scott Tullis, II all of West Monroe, LA; step-granddaughter, Jennifer Melton and husband Stuart; step-grandchildren, Andi Grace, Anna Dale, and Andon Melton all of Monroe, LA; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held from 5:00PM until 7:00PM Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe.
