James Cannon

July 8, 1950 — August 31, 2022

James Ross (Jim) Cannon, age 72, of Monroe, Louisiana, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 31. Funeral services for Mr. James Ross (Jim) Cannon will be held at 3:00 P.M. Sunday, September 4, 2022, at North Monroe Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Waley and Rev. Warren Eckhardt officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. until time of service. There will be a private family interment.


Jim was born on July 8,1950, to Ross Neville Cannon and Fannie Elizabeth Cannon in Rayville, Louisiana.


Jim married Mary Ellen (Mo) Crowe, January 1,1971. They have 3 children: Brandi Nicole Cannon Whaley, Ross Clint Cannon, and Joellen Cannon Lee.


Jim dedicated his life to one of public service. He served in the Louisiana National Guard as a Second Lieutenant for 6 years. During this time, he also served as a trooper with the Louisiana State Police. He retired from the State police as a Lieutenant, after serving 20 years in both patrol and the narcotics investigation division. He then served 4 years as the Narcotics Division Supervisor with the Morehouse Parish Sheriff’s Office. He joined the Ouachita Parish Sheriff Department working in the Patrol Division in 1996, where he served until he retired in 2008. All together he served a total for 40 years in service to his community and country.


Known affectionally as “Jimmer” by his children and grandchildren, he is loved and will be missed by his mother, Fannie Cannon; his brother, Russ Cannon; his uncle, Bob Smith; his children, Brandi and her husband Paul Whaley, Clint and his wife Shantell, Joellen and her husband Mike Lee; his grandchildren, Luke and his wife Ashley, Caroline, Karsyn, Lily, Hannah Claire, Marielle, Jake, and Cannon; and his loving wife of 52 years, Mary Ellen “Mo” Cannon.
