Funeral services celebrating the life of Mr. James Clayton McGrew, 95, of West Monroe, LA, will be held at 10:30 A.M. Monday, August 2, 2021, at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church in West Monroe, LA, with Rev. Jim Arrant officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in West Monroe, LA.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Sunday, August 1, 2021, at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.
Mr. McGrew was born November 10, 1925 and passed away July 30, 2021. He was a longtime member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. He and his wife were instrumental in starting the library at Mt. Vernon for the membership to enjoy Christian reading of God’s word. He enjoyed being in the outdoors hunting and fishing with his family and spending time in his garden. Mr. McGrew retired from the Ouachita Parish School Board in the maintenance department. He was able to fix just about anything through his years of experience.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Edna Mae McGrew; parents; 5 brothers and 2 sisters.
Survivors: his daughters and sons-in-law, Pat M. and Jim Arrant, and Dewanna M. and Mike Eady; Son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Karen McGrew; grandchildren, Shane Arrant (Gara), Owen Arrant (Amy), Amy Arrant, Kade Eady (Shannon), Heather Langley (Will), Lauren Moore (Elliott), Leslie Ostransky (Sam); 22 great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Shane Arrant, Owen Arrant, Justin Arrant, Tyler Arrant, Kade Eady, and Will Langley.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
