Hugh Vance Burris, 89Hugh Vance Burris, 89, of Monroe, Louisiana, was a good man who loved his God, his family and his country…and he worked tirelessly for all three. But in the evening hours of Wednesday, September 24, 2014, he was called home to his eternal reward in Heaven to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Funeral services celebrating the life of Mr. Burris will be held at 2:00PM, Sunday, September 28, 2014 in the Chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home with Reverend Terry Mims officiating. Interment will be at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.Mr. Burris was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Monroe. He was a retired Insurance Salesman and Executive with Union National Life Insurance Company. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving in World War II.Vance was preceded in death by his parents, Dempsey Eddie Burris and Louvina Elizabeth Coward, five brothers and one sister. Survivors include his wife, Flora Mae Hambright Burris; sons, Dew Wayne Burris and wife Heidi, and Eddie Burris and wife Mary; grandchildren, Shannon Walters and husband Sean, Krista Michelle Burris, Hugh Brandon Burris and wife Amy, Joshua Dewayne Burris; and great grandchildren Graycee, Jace, Hugh Brandon, Jr., Dylan; and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 PM, Saturday at Mulhearn Funeral Home.Pallbearers will be Wiley Glenn Hambright, Danny Ray Burris, Michael Shipp, Garrett Windom, Hugh Brandon Burris and Joshua Burris.Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the NELA Veteran’s Home.
