Funeral services for Hugh Monteith Vick will be held 2:00 PM Thursday, February 23, 2012, at Lakeshore Baptist Church, Monroe, Louisiana . His pastor, the Reverand William Smith, will officiate. Visitation will be at the church from noon until the time of the service. Mr. Vick, 90, died February 21, 2012, in Monroe. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Willie L. Vick and three daughters, Susan V. Tudor and her husband, Michael Tudor, of Pineville, Louisiana, Monnita V. Brasher and her husband, Phillip Brasher, of Waxahachie, Texas, and Kathryn V. Davenport and her husband, Thomas Davenport, of Calhoun, Louisiana. He is also survived by his five grandchildren, Christopher M. Tudor; Kimberly Stone Smith and her husband, Shane Smith; Jeffrey S. Brasher and his wife, Lindy Brasher; Jason W. Tudor; Emily Brasher Linsenbardt and her husband, Jon Linsenbardt. He is also survived by four great grandchildren Kaitlyn Linsenbardt, Ethan Brasher, Caleb Linsenbardt and McKenzie Smith. Two brothers and three sisters also survive him. Mr. Vick was born August 6, 1921, in Boston, Massachusetts. He spent his early years in Pope, Mississippi before attending and playing football at Northwest Junior College in Senatobia, Mississippi. He joined the United States Navy in 1942 and was a pilot and flight instructor during World War II. After his military service he graduated with honors from the School of Forestry at Louisiana State University. Mr. Vick began his professional career with Kellogg Lumber Company in 1948, where he was General Manager until 1975. He was well respected in his profession and opened a consulting business with clients throughout the south after his retirement from Kellogg Lumber Company. He was active in the Louisiana Forestry Association and served two terms as president. Throughout his life, Mr. Vick pursued his avocation of farming. Spending time at his farm in West Carroll Parish, Louisiana was a special pleasure for him. He also pursued his hobby of woodworking in his retirement years. Each of his children and grandchildren treasure many of the beautiful furniture pieces he made especially for them. He was a deacon at Lakeshore Baptist Church in Monroe, Louisiana, and was a Sunday School teacher there for many years. Pallbearers will be his grandsons, grandsons-in law, and Randy Miller. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Lakeshore Baptist Church, the members of his Sunday School Class and Albert Little.
