Funeral services for Mr. Howard D. Barnes, 85, of Monroe, will be held at 1:00 PM Wednesday, January 30, 2008, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA with Don DuLukie, Bill Jeffcoat, Don Glover, and Terry Ware officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Barnes served in the United States Army during WWII. He was a member of Jackson Street Church of Christ, Monroe, LA. He served as an elder at Gloster Street Church of Christ in Tupelo, MS, Church of Christ in Herrin, IL, and University Church of Christ in Monroe, LA. He is preceded in death by his grandson, James Johnston.
He devoted his time to his family and his church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son-in-law, and brother-in-law. He loved gardening, fishing, working with his hands, and the outdoors. He loved to laugh and tell jokes and be around other people.
Survivors include his wife of sixty-five years, Louise Barnes; son, Les Barnes and his wife Lorrie; daughter, Mitzie Finley and her husband Robin; grandchildren, D.J. Johnston, Tina Clark, Mindy Barnes, Kevin Barnes, Cheri Blair, Adam Blair, Mike Finley, and Tamera Finley; brother, James D. Barnes; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Pallbearers will be D.J. Johnston, Gary Smith, Tim Smith, Doug Smith, Shane Smith, and Kah Grayson. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Elders and Deacons of Jackson Street Church of Christ.Visitation will be Tuesday, January 29, 2008 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road.
