A memorial service celebrating the life of Homer Lee Underwood, 74, will be held on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at 10:00am at Loch Arbor Baptist Church with Rev. William Sikes officiating. Interment will follow in Loch Arbor Baptist Church Cemetery.
Homer was born in Kilbourne, LA, on August 22, 1947, and passed away on May 16, 2022, in his home in Monroe, LA. Homer grew up in Lake Providence, LA and after graduating high school he served in the United States Air Force. Homer called Monroe, La. home and was retired from nexAir, after working there for 25 years. He was an avid reader of Westerns, loved to watch sports, and a true “Trekkie” having watched every episode of every Star Trek tv show and all the movies several times.
He was married to the love of his life, Melva “Micey” Underwood for over 40 years. She preceded him in death, along with his parents, Carl and Dovie Underwood; sisters, Sylvia Ratcliff and Edith Mann; daughter-in-law, Theresa Simmons; and grandson, Timothy Simmons, Jr.
Homer is survived by his siblings: Patsy (Muriel) Hopkins, Betty Fletcher, and Ricky (Debbie)Underwood; his children: Charles (Tessa) Simmons, Daniel (Melisa) Simmons, Rodney Underwood, Sheryl (Billy) Alexander, Timothy (Angela) Simmons, Sr. and Suzanne (Jim)Hewett; his grandchildren: Torrey, Jonathan (Nicole), Kendra, Amber (David), Jennifer (Johnny), Andrew (Aubrey), Elizabeth, Morgan (Carl), Daniel (Madeline), Dakota (Jessica), Kayla, Matthew (Candace), Seth, Austin, and Lewis; his great grandchildren: Connor, Molly, James, Charlotte, Franchesca, Gabe, Michael, Taylor, Lyla, Jack, Brennan, Christian, Maddie, Mylah, Ava, Eliza, McKinley, Jonathan, Jr., and Allie Rose. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
