Memorial Services with military honors for Mr. Henry Baldwin “Hank” Eckert, Jr., 83, of Littleton, CO, will be held at a later date at the Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 West Kenyon Avenue, Denver, CO.
Mr. Eckert was born June 29, 1935, in Baltimore, MD, and went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 13, 2019, in Monroe, LA. He served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps and the United States Air Force. Mr. Eckert was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Denver, CO. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joan Marie “Jorie” Scott.
He served in the Marines 1954–1958, including as a part of American forces sent to assist during the 1958 Lebanon crisis. He received a bachelor’s degree in Math from the University of Oklahoma in 1962. After graduation, he served during the Vietnam War as a non-combat officer in the Air Force 1962–1978, when he retired with the rank of Major. During his time in the Air Force, he served in Colorado Springs, CO (where he met and married Jorie Scott); Tucson, AZ; at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C.; in Bangkok, Thailand; and again in Colorado Springs, where he worked at NORAD in Cheyenne Mountain. Upon his retirement, he worked on government contracts for various aerospace defense companies.
His hobbies included watching baseball (Colorado Rockies) and football (especially the Air Force Falcons, where he was a longtime season ticket holder), reading (especially Clive Cussler thrillers), and singing in the choir at Trinity United Methodist Church.
He is survived by his son, Win Scott Eckert and wife Lisa, of Monroe, LA; grandson, Andrew Klozenbucher of Colorado Springs, CO; brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Dixie Scott of Lucedale, MS; nephew and niece, Art and Connie Kraemer of CT.
The family would like to extend their special thanks to Katie Kaiser and Antwon Hawkins for their care, friendship, and companionship, which was deeply valued by Mr. Eckert; the staff at Azalea Estates in Monroe, LA, who gave “Mr. Hank” great care and love; and Premier Hospice of Bastrop, LA, who administered to Mr. Hank’s physical and spiritual needs, again with love, respect, and dignity; Vernon and Dixie Scott for their love and support; Andrew, for being there; and to our many friends in both Denver and Louisiana, who provided so much love and assistance during this difficult time.
When Memorial Services are held, the family will select and communicate a charitable organization for donations in Mr. Eckert’s name.
