A Funeral Mass celebrating the life of Helen Scallan Sasser, 95, of Rayville, LA will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Rayville, LA with Fr. Peter Mallya and Fr. Mike Thang’wa officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday in the St. Paul Catholic Cemetery in Mansura, LA under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home Rayville, LA.
Mrs. Sasser was born on October 18, 1928, and passed away peacefully on April 1, 2024. Helen loved life and lived it with great joy. She adored family and friends. Her door was always open to visitors, and there was always a meal provided for anyone who stopped by. She was very creative and loved to dance. Helen was very active in her church, Sacred Heart Catholic, and set an example of faith for her family. She was a teacher’s aide for many years and provided an atmosphere of compassion and caring for all the students with whom she worked. Helen is preceded in death by husband, John William Sasser, Jr.; her parents, Turner and Volcie Scallan; her son, Richard Lorenz Sasser; and her sisters, Mary Nell Goux and Theresa Schexnayder.
She is survived by her children, John William Sasser, III (Dr. Diane Denais Sasser), Mary Tuleta Sasser, and James Christopher Sasser (Melanie Moody Sasser), and daughter-in-law, Jackie Henderson Sasser (Richard Lorenz Sasser); grandchildren, Jan Martin (Jason), Christopher Sasser (Kim) and Morgan Mehta (Samir); great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jason Martin, Aiden Martin, Christopher Sasser, Mark Middleton, Tommy Cantin, and Donald Letlow.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Mulhearn Funeral Home Rayville, LA.
The family would like to thank Mrs. Sasser’s extended family of Ridgecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation of West Monroe and Passages Hospice Care for their love and care they have shown not only to Mrs. Sasser but to her family as well.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul at Sacred Heart Catholic Church or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
