Mrs. Montgomery was born in Vallejo, CA, to Robert and Ruth Nichols on June 21, 1942. She was the youngest of two girls. Helen resided in Vallejo until her late teens, when she moved to San Francisco, CA and attended St. Mary’s College. She studied transcribing and shorthand and then went to work for the US Forest Service, where she was a secretary in charge of recording and keeping track of forest fires in the state of California. During this time, she volunteered as a yard duty teacher. She went back to school and received her AA while working as a teacher’s assistant. Helen later worked for Pacific Bell and then transitioned into AT&T. She retired from AT&T in 2010 after 25 years of service. Bob and Helen made the trek to settle down in West Monroe, LA, in July of 2014. They soon became members of the Cypress Street Church of God. She loved the church and would often volunteer her time in the “Card Ministry” and joined a group that would go and sing hymns to the elderly. Helen was a 5-year breast cancer survivor who had a heart of gold and loved everyone and was loved by all. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Ruth Nichols and by her sister, Mary Rush.
