Hazel Louise Averett DouglasFuneral services for Mrs. Hazel Louise Averett Douglas, 91, of Monroe will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, February 27, 2016, in the chapel of Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Monroe with Rev. Warren Eckhardt officiating. Interment will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, LA.Hazel Louise Averett Douglas was born November 25, 1924 to Clyde Averett and Mary Ella Worley Averett McCain in West Monroe, Louisiana. Even as a young girl, she was active in teaching Sunday school at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. During World War II, she studied nursing in New Orleans and earned her registered nurse degree. She returned home to West Monroe and married William S. Douglas. Later, Bill and Hazel moved to Swartz, Louisiana, where they raised their three children; Clifton, Timothy and Marilyn.Hazel Douglas spent many years as an RN at St. Francis Hospital and remained active as a church member of Swartz First Baptist.Mrs. Douglas passed away on February 24, 2016, at St. Francis Medical Center. Mrs. Douglas was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Clyde Averett Jr., and her husband William S. Douglas.Her surviving family members are her children; Clifton Douglas, Timothy Douglas and Marilyn Douglas Varner. Her grandchildren; John Douglas, Robert Douglas, Theresa Douglas Doubet and Oriana Douglas Betts and her great-grandchildren; Jackson and Arabella.Memorials may be made to Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home or the River Cities Humane Society.
