Harry Lewis Stone, 93, went to be with his Lord Saturday, August 19, 2017. A Celebration of Life will be Wednesday, August 23, at 10:30 AM at Grace Episcopal Church with Rev. Michael Bordelon officiating. Visitation will follow at Kilbourne Hall.
A native of Monroe, Harry graduated from Ouachita High School. He earned a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from LSU at the age of 19. Harry was commissioned as an officer in the United States Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. In Nov., 1944, he married Elizabeth (Betty) Bass. They were married 72 years until her death on August 4, 2017. After his discharge from the Navy, Harry and Betty returned to Monroe and Harry earned a degree in Petroleum Geology from NLU, now ULM. He served on the City of Monroe Utilities Commission, the Vestry of Grace Church, and School Board of Grace School. He worked in the petroleum industry until 1967 when he opened the Bookmark. Harry was an entrepreneur, a businessman, a faithful Christian, and a wonderful father and teacher to his three daughters, Susan, Martha, and Emily.
Harry was preceded in death by his beloved wife Betty and daughter, Martha Stone Husmann.
He is survived by his daughters, Susan S. Miksa and Emily S. Council and sons-in-law, Rudi Miksa and Gary Husmann (Kristie); and special daughters of the heart, Pam Hansen and Mitzi Galligan. He leaves six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
