Funeral Services Celebrating the Life of Mr. Harold Jerome “Jerry” Miles Jr., 68, of Columbia, LA will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, April 20, 2019 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA with Rev. Danny McIlveene officiating. Interment will follow in the Hasley Cemetery in West Monroe, LA.

Jerry was born on July 20, 1950 in Monroe, LA and passed away on April 14, 2019 in Shreveport, LA. All who knew Jerry knew he loved life. He loved bowling most of all, but he loved drag racing and thrill seeking in general. Jerry was a LPN and a very compassionate care giver. He loved his work in home health and hospice. Although he had this degree and accomplishments, Jerry wore many hats in his lifetime. He served in the United States Air Force as a Rad Tech, he once raced Alcohol Drag Boats sponsored by Miller Beer, he managed a pharmacy for K&B Drug Stores, drove for a car transport company (Big Rig), was a Certified Master Bowling Ball Driller, Bronze Level Certified Bowling Coach and was a professional Bowler. Most recently he enjoyed being the Head Bowling Coach for the Louisiana Tech Women’s Bowling Team. He loved coaching on the armature and collegiate level, and would help anyone, even those bowling in opposition to him. Jerry also served on the Advisory Staff for Brunswick Bowling. He enjoyed his job at JPMorgan Chase Mortgage which he described as “the least stressful job he ever had” and made many friends there.

Jerry was a great Ambassador for bowling. Any tournament he could manage to attend became a part of the travel plans. His favorite Handicap Tournament was the Emerald Coast Bowling Tournament held in Ft. Walton Beach, FL. He would begin rounding up people for the next year the day he left the tournament. Jerry was honored to be a part of the local, state, and national bowling communities and was a True Sportsman.

Jerry had many accomplishments in bowling including winning the Doubles, Singles and All Events Scratch event at the 1984 Southern Bowling Congress Tournament, Doubles and Singles Scratch Champion at the Louisiana State Bowling tournament, Champion for the SASBA Bowling Tour, Champion in the Arkansas Scratch Bowlers Tour and Arkansas Scratch Senior Bowlers Tour. Most recently Jerry won his division at the Louisiana State Senior Tournament and was to represent the State in the National Tournament in Cincinnati, Ohio later this year.

Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Ruth Miles, Sr., and his maternal and paternal grandparents.

Survivors include his partner in life and longtime Sweetheart Tina L. Hixon, who he affectionately called Sugar Bear; Tina’s children who Jerry thought of as his own, Maggie Clarkson, Devan Nelson, and Jessica Ann Hendry; grandchildren, Alyson Clarkson, Aiden Clarkson, Madison Nelson, Alyssa Brown, Harley Rae-Faith Hendry, McKenzie Nelson, Malliegh Nelson, and Ryder Payslea Hendry; may treasured cousins and friends.

Pallbearers will be Carry Amos, James Tramble, Terry Quinley, Jr., Oscar Epps, Gary Underwood, John E. “Eddie” Underwood, and John Hays. Honorary Pallbearers will be James Brownell, Tom Bush, Tim Coates, Todd Lindsey, Chad Broussard, Mike Sams, Ben T. Hixon, Bob LaFiette, Tobin Truex and his entire bowling family.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Friday, April 19, 2019 at Mulhearn Funeral Home West Monroe, LA.

Memorials may be made in Jerry’s honor to the Northeast Louisiana Youth Bowling Association.
