Gordon “Gordy” Pederson, 76, of Monroe, LA, was called to his heavenly home Friday, September 2, 2016, with his family at his side. He was born to Irvin, Sr. and Evelyn (Rogstad) Pederson in Westby, MT on September 3, 1939. He graduated from Ferndale (WA) High School in 1957 and served four years in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. Gordy retired after 20 years at Intalco Aluminum before moving his family to Monroe, LA. He worked another 20 years in Monroe and Atlanta as a purchasing manager before retiring in 2005.
Gordy was an avid sportsman and played slowpitch for Pete’s Exxon and coached little league football for 20 years. He loved watching his kids and grandkids play their sports and never missed a game.
Gordy was an active member of North Monroe Baptist Church and loved working the information desk on Sundays and serving Wednesday night dinners.
Gordy and wife Teri (Boykin) Pederson had just celebrated 53 years of marriage. He will be greatly missed by Teri; daughter, Cathy (Dave) Swenson of Wisconsin; son, Doug (Jeannie) of New Jersey; son, Craig (Karen) of Monroe; and son, David of Monroe. He is also survived by 8 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; one sister, Fern of Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, and 1 sister.
A memorial celebration for Gordy will be, Saturday, October 1, 2016 at North Monroe Baptist Church, Monroe, LA. Visitation will be at noon with the service to follow at 2:00 PM with Rev. Warren Eckhardt and Dr. Johnny Funderburg to officiate.
