Glenda Fletcher Young Powell, 68, left her earthly family suddenly on Friday, November 16, 2012. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Monday, November 19, 2012, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe. She is now in heaven surrounded by all her loved ones that have gone before her.
She was born to Vesta and Bonnie Fletcher on July 6, 1944, in Monroe, LA. She was a bright young lady that excelled in school at Ouachita Parish High School. Throughout her life she was a successful business woman and entrepreneur. She was a member of new Light Baptist Church in Monroe where she built her relationship with God.
Family was the most important thing in her life. Her unconditional love for all her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews, was her greatest strength. Often she was told her kindness was a weakness, but that was the farthest thing from the truth. Her kindness and love for all was an inspiring legacy that she instilled in her family and would want all her family and friends to remember and carry on.
Preceded in death by her beloved mother, Vesta Fletcher and father, Bonnie Fletcher; husband, David Powell; great granddaughter, Emma Cathey; brothers, Dee, Melvin, Lynell, Arnold, John; and sister, Bonnie.
Survivors include children, Debbie Hammett, Ellie Loflin and husband Mike, Joe Young Jr., and wife Donna, and Donna Piquiet and husband Will; grandchildren, Eddie James, William “Billy Joe” Loflin, Jessica Blackwell, Tabetha Thompson, Heather Prather, William “Lil Bill” Dombrowski Jr., Christopher Young, Christina Casey, Patrick Dombrowski, nineteen great grandchildren, and special friends Bill and Gail Greenlee and Linda Hobgood Wilson, all of which she loved unconditionally.
Pallbearers will be Eddie James, William “Billy Joe” Loflin, William “Lil Bill” Dombrowski, Jr., Christopher Young, Patrick Dombrowski, Nat Blackwell, Chad Prather, and Brandon Casey.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday, November 18, 2012, at the funeral home.
The family wishes to extend their thanks to her caregiver and granddaughter, Tabetha Thompson.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
