Funeral services for Glen Edward Hammett, 89, of Thompsons Station, TN, formerly of Monroe, LA will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 7, 2021, at the Lea Joyner Memorial United Methodist Church, Monroe, LA with Pastor Ben McGehee, and Associate Pastor Betty Swanson officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe, LA, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home.
Glen was born on March 25, 1932, in Forest, LA, and passed away on April 2, 2021, in Thompsons Station, TN.
Glen was a member of Lea Joyner Memorial United Methodist Church where he served in many capacities. Glen graduated from Forest High School, Forest, LA and Northeast Louisiana University, Monroe, LA, with a BA in Elementary Education, and Louisiana Tech University with an MBA Plus Thirty in Education. He taught math, science, and 6th grade at Jefferson Junior High for 5 years, Principal at Minnie Ruffin Elementary for 4 years, Assistant Principal at Wossman High School for 4 years, Principal at Clara Hall Elementary for 19 years and Personnel Director for Monroe City School System for 3 years.
Glen is preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Ellen Decker Hammett; parents, Ernest William Hammett, and Tyna Ethel Parker Hammett; sister, Ernestine Hammett Howell; brothers, Troy Lavelle Hammett, Earl Lee Hammett, and Winford Byrum Hammett.
Survivors include his daughters, Debra R. “Debbie” McBride and husband, Robert of Murfreesboro, TN, and Karen L. Nugent and husband, Don of Thompsons Station, TN; grandchildren, Jennifer Harbor, Kayla McBride Martinez, Brandi Nugent Thomisee, Ryan Nugent, Lynnsey Nugent Creamer; great-grandchildren, Annalyn Page, Ira Page, Trace Martinez, Karina Martinez, Ashley Jenkins Hunt, Brooke DeBoit, Jarrett Thomisee, Hadley Creamer, Everly Creamer, Luke Nugent, Lynnli Nugent; great-great-granddaughters, Tori Hunt, and Amelia Hunt.
Pallbearers are Ryan Nugent, David Hammett, Randy Hammett, Jarrett Thomisee, Hugh Riley, and Kenny Herring.
Visitation is 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 6, 2021, at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, LA.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Pastors Ben McGehee and Betty Swanson, and the Pastor’s Sunday School Class for your many visits, prayers, and love.
