Gilbert Milo Marx

February 3, 1931 — October 21, 2016

Lt. Col. Gilbert Milo Marx, USAR, Ret., was born February 23,1931, and passed away on October 21, 2016. He was 85 years old. Visitation will be held at Mulhearn Funeral Home on Sterlington Rd., Monroe, LA, at 10:00 AM, Monday, October 24, 2016, with services following at 11:00 AM, with Rabbi Judy Ginsburgh officiating. Interment will be in The Jewish Cemetery, Monroe, LA, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home.

Lt. Col. Marx was a native and life-long resident of Monroe. He was retired from the office equipment business after 35 years. A graduate of Neville High School, Lt. Col Marx attended LSU, and then graduated from ULM with a degree in Business Administration.

He served in the United States Army for two years on active duty, from 1953 until 1955, serving 15 months of that time in Korea during the Korean War. For 26 years, Marx was active in the U.S. Army Reserves.

Lt. Col. Marx was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Virginia Marston Brown Marx. He was also preceded in death by his mother, Bertha Stein Marx; by his father, Abraham Milo Marx; and by his brother, Charles Simon Marx.

He is survived by his daughter, Sage Redding Veach and her husband, Wallace Veach, of Baton Rouge, LA., and is survived by a son, Dr. Paschal E. Redding and his wife Kim, of Birmingham, AL.

He is survived by four grandchildren: Matthew Lane, of Baton Rouge, LA; granddaughter, Lesley Redding Parrish and her husband Joshua and their children, Abigail Taylor Parrish and Luke Bryant Parrish, all of Troy, AL; grandson, Grant Redding and his wife Elizabeth, and their sons, Cade and Jacob Redding, all of Birmingham, AL; and by granddaughter, Virginia Veach Johnston and her husband Kyle and their three children, Milo, Josephine and Juliette Johnston, all of Santa Rosa Beach, FL; and niece, Lorie Lewis Jones and her daughter Mallorie Jones, of Monroe, LA.

Lt. Col. Marx was a member of the Temple B’Nai Israel, and the American Legion. He worked with his wife Virginia to organize chapters of the Junior American Citizen. He belonged to the Sons of the American Revolution, and The Military Order of the World Wars.

A United States Army military guard will participate in Lt. Col Marx’s funeral with military honors.

He will be sadly missed by his life-long friends. He spent his whole life in Monroe, and leaves behind many friends. He will be remembered for his quick wit and dry humor. To him, there was no greater place than Monroe with his many friends.
