Geraldean was born on April 25, 1939, in Oak Grove, Louisiana. She grew up as the only girl in a house full of brothers. As a child, she enjoyed roaming the woods on her horse, Pet. She attended Bastrop High School and made her home in Bastrop with her first husband, Kelly Lavelle Vining Sr., married on September 16, 1957. They owned a rural store where Geraldean was beloved by the community. With Lavelle, she had Kelly and Ronald Vining.
Upon her remarriage to Leo Duchesne on June 19, 1972, Geraldean gained a whole new loving family and moved to Monroe, Louisiana. She became a member of Cypress Street Church of God for almost five decades, raising many generations of children to know the Lord. She became known for her van, which transported kids from all over the Monroe-West Monroe area to Sunday School. She served in any capacity that was asked of her and loved her church family. After moving to the Atlanta area, she became a proud member of Smyrna First United Methodist Church.
Geraldean and Leo Duchesne owned and operated the Bastrop Singer Sewing Machine Shop together since the beginning of their marriage. Using her business savvy, she expanded it to a Monroe location as well. Geraldean taught hundreds of people from all different backgrounds the life skills of sewing and was a mentor no one could take for granted. The Duchesnes were one of the top Singer dealers in the country and took many global trips with the Singer company.
Geraldean always had many adventure stories to share with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, from Canada to Brazil to Israel. She was a lover of travel, animals, music, art, and beautiful trinkets. She had an extraordinary way with flowers, cooking, and sewing. She will be remembered for the richness she added to the lives of anyone she encountered.
A memorial service in honor of Geraldean will be held on July 21st, 2:00 p.m., at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel off US-80.
