Gene Sorey

Funeral Services for Mr. Gene Sorey, 93, of Rayville, LA, will be held at 1:00 P.M., Saturday, April 17, 2021, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Rayville, LA, with Rev. Troy Dennard officiating. Interment will follow in Rayville Masonic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 11:30 A.M. until service time on Saturday.

Mr. Sorey was born December 23, 1927 and passed away April 12, 2021. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Rayville. He was a graduate of Rayville High School and a veteran of the United States Navy. Mr. Sorey was the owner and contractor of Sorey’s Lumber Company, and he owned the Sears Catalog Store in Rayville. He also had Gene Sorey Insurance for 50 years.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Johnnie Mae Sorey; father, Clifton W. Sorey; mother, Marie Sorey; brother, Calvin Sorey; and sister, Peggy Sue Diebel.

Survivors include his daughter, Joni Eikert and husband Paul Eikert of West Monroe, LA; son, Gordon Sorey and wife Vicki Sorey of Bay City, TX; six grandchildren, Kyle Takewell and wife Kimberly, Jeni Takewell, Stella Sorey, Jordan Patton, Logan Bailey, and Dustin Henderson and wife Jenna; seven great grandchildren; sister, Janice Green of Tucson, AZ; sister-in-law, Audrey Tucker and husband John; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Paul Eikert, Kyle Takewell, Tom Heath, Jonathan Diebel, Phillip Vallery, Charlie Thomason, and Laslie Thomason.
