Gary F. Hamilton passed away at home on Sunday morning, August 1, 2021. Gary was born on January 19, 1944 to D.W. “Buck” and Marie Jordan Hamilton in San Angelo, Texas. He grew up in Sweetwater, Texas and graduated from Sweetwater “Newman” High School in May 1962. He attended Texas Tech University majoring in Finance. After college, he was hired by Montgomery Ward as a Credit Manager Trainee. In July of 1968 he and his family were transferred to Big Spring, Texas as the Credit Manager for Montgomery Ward. In May of 1971 he was transferred to Monroe, Louisiana as the Credit Manger for Montgomery Ward. After 8 years with Montgomery Ward he resigned and was hired by Central Bank as an Assistant Vice President in the credit card department. Later he was promoted to Vice President of credit cards and worked in credit cards for approximately 15 years and then was asked to manage the retail collections department and was there for 8 years. His last 2 years with Central Bank ware spent as the Branch Manager at the Lakeshore Branch. He retired from the Central Bank in June 1998. During his time at Central Bank he graduated from the Banking School of the South at LSU in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He stayed retired for 6 years and then came out of retirement in 2004 to become Branch Manager for the Bancorp South branch on Cypress Street in West Monroe. He retired again in June, 2012. During his banking career he was an active member of the Sertoma Club and the Kiwanis Club. Gary loved to bass fish and deer hunt. He was a member and Secretary/Treasurer for the 10-Mile Creek hunting club in Union Parish for over 35 years. He and his wife were big supporters of “NLU”, now ULM football and the alumni association. There was no place he’d rather be on a Saturday during football season than in The Grove tailgating and visiting with football friends and fans. On September 27, 2014 he was honored to receive the George T. Walker Lifetime Achievement Award from the Alumni Association at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. It was the first time this award was presented to a recipient that did not graduate from ULM. Gary will be remembered most for his love of people. He never met a stranger and loved meeting and getting to know others. Gary is preceded in death by his father D.W. “Buck” Hamilton, his mother Marie Jordan Armstrong, his sister Terry Ann Scott of Sweetwater, Texas and his grandson Cole Brooks Hamilton from Monroe, Louisiana. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Gayle Marie Hamilton, his two sons, Brittan Lane Hamilton (Laurie) from Monroe, Louisiana, Brian Lynn Hamilton (Sherry) from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, his grandson Chandler Hamilton from West Monroe, Louisiana and his granddaughter, Alexis Grace Hamilton from Denver, Colorado.
A memorial service will held for Gary on Sunday, August 8, 2021 at North Monroe Baptist Church in Monroe, Louisiana at 1:30pm. The service will be officiated by Pastor Warren Eckhart. He will be laid to rest at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe, Louisiana.
Pallbearers will be J.V. Martin, Terry Barnhill, Wade Earnheart, Jerry Beene, Billy McKie and Jimmy Skeen.
