Funeral service for Gary Arlen Cook, 82, of Monroe, will be held at 1:00 PM, Monday, June 8, 2015, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, with Rev. William L. Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe, LA.Gary Arlen Cook passed away on June 5, 2015, at home. He was born on September 6, 1932, in Joaquin, TX to George J. Cook and Iva Bell Wilburn Cook. Gary was a veteran of the Korean War serving his tour in Germany. He was a member of Lakeshore Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School in the Junior Department for many years. He was a Distinguished President of the Bayou DeSiard Optimist Club. He was employed with Arkla Energy Resources, now known as Centerpoint, as a Regional Measurement Supervisor. Upon his retirement he worked as a field deputy with the Ouachita Parish Tax Assessor. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Charles. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 61 years, Mary Moncrief Cook of Monroe; son, Gary Jr. and wife Linda of Hebert; son, Steve of Monroe; his brother, Ted and his wife Carolyn of Bossier City; his much loved aunt and cousins from Texas and Mississippi, nieces, and nephews; and granddogs, Casey, Jake and Pepper.Pallbearers will be Willie Crain, Buddy Hart, Glen Oates, Elee Trichel, Don Wilburn, and John Wilburn.Visitation will be held from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Sunday, June 7, 2015, at the funeral home.The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and all health care personnel who helped Gary during his seven year battle with cancer.Online Registry/Condolences: www.mulhearnfuneralhome.comMulhearn Funeral HomeSterlington RoadMonroe, LA
