Frances May Sandoz Downhour of Monroe, LA, formerly of New Orleans, LA, was born on October 6, 1938, into the marriage of Harold and Rena Sandoz and passed into eternity on September 5, 2018. Fran, also known as "Granny Franny", was a Wonder Woman to her family and friends. She worked as an RN at North Monroe Hospital, Overton Brooks VA Clinic and as an instructor at ULM. She was successful in her chosen field of ministry, but her greatest accomplishment was her faith in Christ that she showed to her family and friends. Her quick wit and fun-loving manner will keep us all wrapped in smiles as we remember her. After her retirement, she joined and worked at educating and encouraging others with Parkinson’s disease.
Fran was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband of 55 years, Rollie Downhour.
She leaves behind her sons, Bill (Cindy) of Shreveport, Mike (Sheila Kay), Matt (Tracy) of Monroe; 9 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister, Sharon Sandoz Kirby (Clifton) of Huntsville, AL; and nephews and nieces, Marcus (Kellie), Kim Mayo (Tommy), Scott (Denice) and Clifton (Frances).
The family would like to thank the staff at Avalon Place and Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care. The family would also like to thank Dr. Richard Zweig, who worked to help her fight the effects of Parkinson's. She was an active member of her church and the Parkinson's Support Group.
Pallbearers are grandsons, Josh Downhour, Tim Downhour, and nephews, Marc Kirby, Scott Kirby, Tommy Mayo, and Cliff Kirby. Honorary pallbearers are Shawn Downhour, Taylor Downhour, Matt Hendrix and Billy Weeks.
