Frances Dickenson Robinson of Delhi passed from this life Monday, May 29, after a lengthy illness. She was born June 4, 1948, and was the only child of Frank and Mattie Bradford Dickenson of Georgetown, LA.
Frances was a teacher in the Delhi public schools for 30 years and spent her retirement as an employee of the Delhi Hospital in the capacity of transportation coordinator. Early in her career she also served as coach for the girls’ basketball team at Delhi Junior High School. She was a member of the Delhi Presbyterian Church, Louisiana Federation of Teachers, Beta Sigma Phi sorority, and a group of eight lifetime friends whom she called sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her devoted husband of 55 years, James (Corky) Robinson and sons, David (Kelly), Andy (Ashley), and Kris (Jessica). She lived her last years with grandchildren as the center of her world, always attending a ballgame, dance recital, birthday party or some other event for Parker, Ryder, Greer, Bradson, and Mattie Jene. Other survivors include numerous cousins and a multitude of friends.
Frances had a passion for travel and was ready to go at the drop of a hat. Her happy place was The El Matador in Fort Walton Beach, FL where she went annually for over thirty years. Not only that, but she also recruited friends and family to be part of her “caravan” heading southeast every summer.
She was an excellent teacher who imparted her love of history to all who attended her classes and treated her students and her friends like family. She was greatly loved and her absence from this world will be felt by many for a very long time.
Frances was a fighter who never stopped trying to defeat the illness from which she suffered. She came back from the brink repeatedly - to fight another day. Her tenacity and determination were especially evident the past two years, earning the admiration of all who knew her.
Visitation for friends and family will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Thursday, June 1, 2023, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home on Highway 165 North in Monroe. A celebration of life will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 2, 2023, at the Delhi Presbyterian Church in Delhi.
