Florine Bailey Baker, 87, earned her wings on Sunday morning September 11, 2016. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM September 16, 2016 at Lea Joyner Memorial UMC with Rev. Betty Swanson officiating.
Florine was born on August 16, 1929 and grew up on her parents’ farm in Epps, LA. She graduated from Epps High School and took classes to become a beautician.
Florine could often be found in the kitchen baking somebody’s favorite dish or talking on the phone. She loved keeping up with everything happening in the lives of all her family and friends and any occasion that brought people together. She was a long time member of Lea Joyner Memorial UMC and rarely missed a Sunday at church.
She was predeceased by her parents Justin Berrion Bailey and Sweetie Mae Fleming.
Florine is survived by her husband of 36 years, Davis Baker, her children Marilynn Thompson, Ken Thompson, Sr (Deloris), and Gary Thompson (Cyndy); her grandchildren Angela Hunt (Moses), Melissa Decker (Matt), Amanda Thompson, and Kenny Thompson, Jr (Jessee); eight great-grandchildren, countless cherished life-long friends, and “her dog” Agapé.
She is also survived by her stepdaughters that she always loved as her own, Becky Cox (Don), Doris Talley (Jim); grandchildren Elizabeth, Caroline, William and Mary Ann; and two great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lea Joyner Memorial UMC.
