Flora Mae Burris, age 95, of Monroe, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, March 8, 2021.

She was born December 10, 1925 in Holly Bluff, Mississippi, a daughter of the late Charles Elwood and Etta Lou Hambright. Flora’s mom died when she was young and was raised by her stepmother, Alma Hambright.

Flora married the love of her life, Hugh Vance Burris, June 12, 1947, who preceded her in death in 2014. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Shannon Walters.

Flora was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, had a heart for hospitality and loved to love on everyone. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, extended family, and friends. Flora’s hands were always busy, whether it be in the kitchen cooking for a crowd or sitting in her favorite chair with her crochet needles making beautiful afghans for family and friends. Her home was open to all and you would never leave her home hungry.

Flora is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dew Wayne Burris (Heidi) and Charles Eddie Burris (Mary); three grandchildren, Krista Prince (Mike), Brandon Burris (Amy), and Josh Burris (Ashley); and six great grandchildren. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will miss her dearly.

Those wishing to honor her life can donate in her name to Ascend Hospice, 4404 Old Sterlington Rd, Monroe, LA 71203.

Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 AM Friday March 12, 2021 at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, 623 US Hwy 80, Monroe, LA 71203. Funeral Services will follow at 11:00 AM with Rev. Randy Ray officiating.
