Faye Walker Tew was born on September 24, 1927 and went to her heavenly home on October 22, 2023 at the age of 96. She was born in Magee, Mississippi to Leo and Olice Walker. She married Bobby Tew and moved to Monroe, Louisiana in1956 where she resided until 2022. She retired from the Ouachita Parish Fire Department in 2016 where she was secretary to the Fire Chief.
Faye was kind and generous, always taking care of those around her. She was independent and resilient, setting an example that her friends and family aspired to. She was strong and determined, facing adversity with an incredible inner strength from her unwavering faith in God. She made the best pound cake and had the best laugh. Her family admired and loved her, and she will be dearly missed. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Olice Walker, brother G. W. Walker, husband Bobby Tew, daughter Susan Thompson Tew, and grandson Stafford Summersgill. Survivors include daughter Lyn Bowden and husband Robert, son Steve Tew and wife Nanci, grandchildren James, Lauren and husband Alex, Rebekka and husband Cody, Ashlyn and husband Doran, David and wife Julia, and Margaret and husband Roy, great grandchildren Bankston, Caroline, Aubrey, Roy, and Bolden, sister Joyce Barnes, and brother Otto Walker.
A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Swartz, 1983 LA 139, Swartz, Louisiana at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 26, 2023. Visitation will take place prior to the service at 9:00 am. Burial will be at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery in Monroe. Pallbearers will be Steve Tew, Robbie Barnes, Timmy Walker, David Summersgill, James Bowden, and Bankston Summersgill. Honorary pallbearers are Otto Walker, Alex Dergun, Cody Cardinal, and Doran Smith.
The family would like to extend their gratitude for the loving care provided by Alpine Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ruston, Louisiana over the past several months. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or a charity of your choice.
