Services for Evelyn Gannaway McLendon Lanham, 88 of Monroe, Louisiana will be held on Thursday, September 7, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Monroe, with Rev. Ricky Baker and Bob Clanton officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. until time of the service. Burial will be at the Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery. Evelyn G. Lanham passed from this life on September 5, 2017 into the arms of Jesus following a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Lanham was born on January 30, 1929 in Monroe, Louisiana to Naomi Riggs and Lewis Baldwin Gannaway. She graduated from Ouachita High School in 1946 and Louisiana Tech in 1950 with a degree in elementary education. Mrs. Lanham worked as an elementary school teacher, librarian and an administrative assistant at ULM.
She married James Wallace McLendon in 1950. Together they had one child, Virginia Lea McLendon Rothwell. In 1989, Evelyn married Robert E Lanham. Mrs. Lanham’s lifelong desire was to be a wife and mother. Her life was lived in the service to her Lord Jesus Christ and to her family and friends.
Evelyn G. Lanham is survived by her husband, Robert Lanham of Monroe; daughter, Virginia Lea McLendon Rothwell and husband Paul of Jesup, Georgia; step-daughters, Pam Lanham Kearney of Monroe, Karen Lanham Hartrick and husband Robin of Monroe; grandchildren, David Rothwell of Bullard, Texas, Tyler Pride and wife Charity of Tyler, Texas, Rebecca Rothwell Shiver and husband Cody of Pelham, Georgia, Michael Kearney and wife Kelly of Spring Branch, Texas, Patrick Kearney and wife Jennifer of Spring Branch, Texas, and Jake Kearney and wife Taja of Texas City, Texas; as well as numerous great-grandchildren , nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Naomi and Lewis Gannaway; first husband, James McLendon; brother, Don Gannaway; and great-granddaughter, Isabella Juliette Rothwell.
Pallbearers will be Wallace McLendon, David Rothwell, Tyler Pride, and Cody Shiver.
The family would like to thank Louisiana Hospice and Palliative Care for their years of caring and dedicated service.
