Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Eugene Wayne Johnson will be held on Friday, July 14, 2017, 10:00 AM, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, LA with April Rodgers officiating. Interment will be in the Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Johnson, 88, of Bossier City, LA, died at home July 8, 2017, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. Gene served in the U.S. Army on two different occasions. After discharge, he went to work for Borden Milk Co. in Lake Charles, LA driving an ice-cream truck. After almost 40 years with Borden, he retired as General Manager in Monroe, LA. Elsie the Cow was his first love. Gene loved working with plants and flowers and spent many hours planting and caring for his yard.
Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Anna Willis Johnson of Foresthill, LA; and 7 brothers and 5 sisters.
Gene is survived by his wife, Ginger Gilbert Johnson; a sister, Shirley Myrick of Florida; sons, Eugene Johnson, Jr and wife Natalie, Randy Johnson and wife Kathy, and Douglas Johnson; daughters, Anna and Olivia; stepson, Spence Sandifer and wife Amy; stepdaughter, Summer Sandifer Hearne and husband Jay; and 12 wonderful grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Spence Sandifer, Dylan Sandifer, Jay Hearne, Parker Hearne, Clayton Allen and Garrett Allen.
Visitation will be 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Thursday, July 13, 2017, at Mulhearn Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the National Alzheimer’s Association or St. Jude Children’s Research.
