Ethel Mae HazlewoodRayville, LA. A beautiful and gracious lady received the gift of God’s peace while asleep on Monday, February 29, 2016. Ethel was born on September 20, 1916 in Rayville to proud parents Louis Wilkerson and Essie Bradley Wilkerson. She was the only sister to three brothers; Bill, Earl, and Buddy. Good days with loving people produced a sweet and caring lady. Ethel married Glen Everett Hazlewood where they made their home in Rayville for forty-five years. She was a stay-at-home mom for many years, then went to work for Dupont’s Jewelry Store. Upon retirement, she devoted her time volunteering at the local nursing homes, hospital, Rhymes Memorial Library, Council on Aging, and Green Thumb. Her arms were always outstretched to soothe and comfort other people. She was a wonderful cook with many of her receipe’s published. She also enjoyed tending to her flower garden. Her home was always filled with a bouquet. Ethel was baptized at First Baptist Church in Rayville in 1928. She was one of the first to be baptized inside the church instead of the river. She enrolled babies on the Cradle Roll and served as president of the Women’s Missionary Union more than once. In 2008, she found her home away from home at Colonial Manor Nursing Home. She flourished there surrounded by wonderful and loving staff and friends. Ethel was preceded in death by her husband; Glen Everett Hazlewood, her parents; Louis and Essie Wilkerson, and brothers; Bill, Earl, and Buddy Wilkerson. Survivors include: Her loving children, daughter; Glenda Davidson and husband Keith of Shreveport, LA, son; David Everett Hazlewood and wife Kathleen of Tampa, FL, 4 grandsons; Brian Davidson, David J, Michael C and wife Liz, and James Hazlewood. Also, 8 great-grandchildren; Julianne, Sarabeth, Luke and Adeline Davidson, and Sydney, J.R., Catherine Ann, and Brenton Hazlewood. The family wishes to express their extreme gratitude for the love and care that Ethel received in her final years from her special and precious caregivers. Services will be at 10:30AM Thursday, March 3, 2016 at First Baptist Church in Rayville with Dr. Eddie Wren officiating. Interment will follow in the Rayville Masonic Cemetery in Rayville under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home-Rayville. Visitation will be from 5:00to 8:00PM on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Rayville.
