Funeral services celebrating the life of Mrs. Emily Lee Devilbiss Oliver Whitten, 78, of Start, Louisiana will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 3, 2025, in the Trinity Lutheran Church, 1301 Oliver Road Monroe, Louisiana 71201, with Pastor Robert Portier officiating. Interment will follow in the St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery in Uniontown, Maryland, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, LA.

Emily left her temporal earthly home for her eternal heavenly home on March 27, 2025. Mrs. Whitten was born on July 31, 1946, in Hanover, Pennsylvania to the union of the late Anna Marie Arnold Devilbiss and the late Floyd Wilbur Devilbiss. Emily graduated from Francis Scott Key High School in 1964 and John Hopkins Hospital School of Radiologic Technology in 1966. She worked as an x-ray tech in Maryland, Texas, and Louisiana for 40 years, retiring from Glenwood Family Practice Clinic in West Monroe, Louisiana.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Monroe, Louisiana, and was a past District President of LWML. Mrs. Whitten enjoyed gardening, was an avid reader, and a crafter who loved everything from cake decorating to crocheting. She also loved dining out. Mrs. Whitten is preceded in death by her parents, her infant sister, Hilda Louise Devilbiss, spouse Robert Oliver, maternal grandparents E. Bayard and Anna Derr Arnold, and fraternal grandparents Wilbur H. and Blanche Hahn Devilbiss.

Survivors include her husband, Freddie Whitten; daughter, Emily Lynn Talbert; stepchildren, Melinda Whitten Cooper and husband, Ronnie, and Eric Whitten and wife, Anita; four grandchildren, Meredith Anderson, Harrison Whitten, Kelsi Whitten, and Josie Whitten; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Honorary pallbearers are Clarence L Zepp Jr, Gary Kipe, Bill Stem, Carl Teitt, Slim Devilbiss, Mark Robson, Charles Zepp, Charlie Kipe, Donnie Franklin, Jim Kipe, and Tom Kipe.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Mulhearn Funeral Home Monroe, Louisiana 71203

Memorials may be made in Louisiana to LWML LA-MS District Mission Projects (c/o Trinity Lutheran Church) or Trinity Lutheran Church Scholarship Fund and in Maryland to St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery Inc/Memorial or St. Luke’s Lutheran Church scholarship fund, or to the charity of your choice.
