Funeral services for Ellouise Scruggs Way, 89, of Jacksonville Beach, FL, will be held at 10:00 AM Wednesday, January 2, 2013, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, Monroe, LA, with Dr. Alan Miller. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Ellouise passed away peacefully at Avante’ Nursing Home of Jacksonville Beach in Jacksonville Beach, FL on December 29, 2012, after a lengthy illness with Parkinson’s disease. She was born on August 11, 1923, in Humnoke, Arkansas, the daughter of Eric Plato Scruggs, Sr., of Keo, AR, and Mildred Ruth Turner of Conway, AR.
Ellouise had a successful 45 year career as a Registered Consultant Dietitian to nursing homes and hospitals in North Louisiana. She graduated from England High School in England, AR at sixteen years old; she received her undergraduate degree at Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, AR. Her graduate degree was from Louisiana Tech University with a Masters of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics. She was a member of the American Dietetic Association, and was active in her local, state and national Dietetic and Consultant organizations. She was the founding member and chairwoman of the National Dietitian Consultant Group of NE Louisiana. She was a trailblazer in her time as the working woman with children and attending school to receive double masters in her field. She helped mentor many women in the Dietitian field. She was also a member of Parkview Baptist Church, Monroe, LA. She was a published author of “Holiday Cooking, A Collection of Holiday Recipes for Family and Friends” which has been re-printed countless times for family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Louis “Cicero” Way, two sons, William Crawford Jowers, Jr. and Gus Eric Jowers and her brother Eric Plato Scruggs, Jr.
She is survived by her son Bradford Scruggs Way and stepson Henry Louis Way, Jr.; daughters-in-law Sheryl Jowers, Katherine Deen Way and Enimia Way, nine grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends and family at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday, January 1, 2013.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to be made to the National Parkinson Foundation.
