Funeral services for Ellen Fontenot Boatright, 84, of Monroe, LA will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 4, 2011 in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe with Rev. Jeff Smart officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. Boatright was born on August 16, 1926 in Oakdale, LA and passed away Friday, December 31, 2010. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Monroe since 1946, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School, served on a pastor search committee and in later years helped care for elderly members of the church. She was a Sherrouse Elementary School PTA Officer, Ouachita Parish High School Lionette sponsor, a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher’s Organization, and River Oaks Business Club sponsor.
Mrs. Boatright graduated from Oakdale High School as valedictorian, Southwestern Louisiana, now the University of Louisiana-Lafayette, and obtained a Masters in Education from Peabody College in Nashville, TN, now Vanderbilt University.
Mrs. Boatright was a business educator for over 35 years beginning in 1946 at Ouachita Parish High School, and continuing at Northeast Louisiana State College, now the University of Louisiana-Monroe, River Oaks School, and Delta-Ouachita Vocational School.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Eloi and Annie Langford Fontenot; brothers, Sam Fontenot and Calvin Fontenot; and sister, Aneloi Endy.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Dewitt Boatright; son, Sam Boatright and wife Nancy of Collierville, TN; daughter, Ellen Ann Gober and husband Giles of Crossett, AR; grandchildren, Emily Boatright and John Boatright of San Diego, CA, Paul Gober of Crossett, AR and Megan Gober of Monroe, LA, Melanie Sartain and husband Brandon and Aimee Page and husband Russ of Memphis, TN; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Monday, January 3, 2011at Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
The family would like to thank the staff of Avalon Nursing Home and Rehab, her roommate at Avalon, Marianna Johnson, her caregiver, Clarice Taylor, Louisiana Hospice, Medistar Home Healthcare, and Dr. Kerry Anders and staff.
