Meddie Elizabeth Jacobs, known to many family and friends as “Tee” went to join Jesus Christ and her beloved husband for 58 years, Robert Lester Jacobs, Saturday, September 3, 2016. Born in 1909 to Franklin Lovelace Parker and Meddie Elizabeth Parker in Tallulah, Louisiana, she was the last surviving of 12 children. Her 107 years of life was highlighted by her constant care for anyone in the family who needed help. In times of trial she was the first to respond to challenges. She taught us the true meaning of “never give up” and “consider others before yourself.” In her final years with us she was most frustrated about was not being able to cook, and care for those around her. But still we learned. The worst she ever felt was “pretty good,” every flower brought to her was the most beautiful she had seen, and every piece of candy was the best!
She witnessed the early stages of the first automobiles and airplanes. The Wright brothers flew for the first time only 3 years before she was born. Her oldest sibling, Irvie Parker, was born in 1890! Working beside Lester at Monroe Storage Battery in Monroe, she touched many lives and made certain that people received the very best service. She loved to cook and was very well known for her brownies, chocolate pies, and cheese straws. Her secret to a long and full life was her dedication to and trust in Jesus Christ, and her love of family. She and Lester served Christ at First Baptist Church in West Monroe, Louisiana.
Her most special times were spent raising her sons, Carl and George, loving and teaching life lessons to her grandson Jeff Jacobs as well as other grandchildren including her much loved granddaughter Shelia Phillips who has been her constant companion and friend. She considered her niece’s Susan Harper and Janis Gill ‘daughters’. Fun times were spent visiting, traveling, eating and laughing with Janis and Susan as well as special niece Jimmie Lee O’Neal. Her 100th birthday was celebrated in part with friends and family on a Florida beach with her close great niece and nephew, Martha Whitaker and Rigby Maupin at the wedding of Martha’s daughter, Holly.
She leaves us all with a greater respect for the importance of family and striving to live life to the fullest. She was a “giving person” and on her 50th Wedding Anniversary wrote:
“I was raised in a home with sisters and brothers and a Father who really loved us all – I know what LOVE is. I have had fifty years with the gentlest, kindliest, most considerate human being I’ve ever known – so I know HAPPINESS. I have seen two sons through the temptuous teens, so I know what SATISFACTION is, I know what FAITH is because I have prayed and my prayers were answered. Because of these things I know what WEALTH is. I know peace with the Lord.”
To be absent from the body is to be present with Christ ---- and Lester --- and so many others in her family.
She is survived by her sons, Carl Wayne Jacobs and wife Bettie, and George Jacobs and wife Vicki. Grandchildren: Jeff Jacobs and wife Shannon, Shelia Phillips and husband Sean, Wayne Jacobs and wife Jennifer and Karen Crozier and husband Drew, 16 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Louisiana Baptist Children’s Home in Monroe, Louisiana.
