Edwin K. Theus, Jr. (Ed) was born on September 29, 1947, in Monroe, La and departed this life on March 31, 2015, at his residence. Ed graduated from Neville High School in 1965 and from Louisiana State University in 1972 with both B.S. and J.D. degrees. While a law student he served as a member of the Louisiana Law Review and was elected to the Order of the Coif upon graduation. He then served as a law clerk to the U.S. District Judge, Edward J. Boyle, Sr. of the Eastern District of Louisiana until 1973 when he joined the law firm, Theus, Grisham, Davis & Leigh, a law firm founded by his grandfather, in Monroe where he practiced until the date of his death. Ed was a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Fourth Judicial District Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Trusts, Estates, Probate and Immovable Property Section of the Louisiana Bar (having served as Chair in 1984). He served as a practicing attorney member of the Council of the Louisiana State Law Institute from 2011 until the date of his death. He was also a member of the Rotary Club International.Ed loved his church. He served as a member of the Vestry of Grace Episcopal Church, Monroe, La, for several terms, Meals on Wheels and as a Eucharist Visitor. He was also active in A.C.T.S. He deeply loved his family and was devoted to his children, traveling often to visit them where ever they lived.Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Katherine T. Theus, by his father, Edwin K. Theus, Sr., and by his sister, Lynn Theus McDonald. He leaves to mourn his death his wife of 41 years, Mary Mintz Theus, his two children, William Kennedy Theus, and Ellen Kimberly Theus, his sister, Coy Theus Adams and numerous nieces and nephews.A service honoring the life of Ed will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, 400 N. Fourth St., Monroe, Louisiana on Monday, April 6, 2015, at 1:00 p. m. with the Reverend Richard Norman and the Reverend Jim Theus officiating, preceded by a visitation from 4:00p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 5, 2015, at Grace Church’s Kilbourne Hall. Following a burial service, internment will be at the Riverview Cemetery on South Grand Street.
