A funeral service for Mr. Edward Allen Sweet, 67, of West Monroe, LA, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 9, 2025, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Rd., Monroe, with Rev. Mr. Sweet was born on September 15, 1957, in Monroe and passed away on March 4, 2025, after a brief but hard-fought battle with cancer. He attended North Monroe Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Berry Life Group Sunday School Class. Edward was a true "Jack of All Trades," but he enjoyed a career as a master carpenter. With immense love and respect for the land, he lived the life of an outdoorsman. His family often heard him say, "If you don’t work, you don’t eat." To him, that meant working hard and knowing how to work the land. This abundance of knowledge served him well during his years spent living in the Alaskan bush country, where he survived by fishing, hunting, growing vegetables, and canning food. His love of gardening and cooking continued throughout his life. He loved sharing his harvests and delicious meals with friends and family.

He was a quiet man, but not shy. He was gentle in spirit, but never weak. He was headstrong and steadfast in everything he did. His loyalty and devotion to his family were unmatched. Edward loved children, but none more than his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His proudest joy came from being their Papa. But there was no question, his greatest love was his beloved wife, Marian.

Mr. Sweet was preceded in death by his parents, Stannard and Mary Gertrude Sweet, and his brother, Steven (Punkin) Sweet. Survivors include his devoted wife of 26 years, Marian Arnold Sweet; children, Danny Wayne Sweet and wife Amanda, Stacey Knox and husband Chris, and Daniel Gilley; grandchildren, Shelby, Lane, Jaxson, Gideon, Mason, Jordan, and Daisy; great-granddaughter, Kynsley; brother, Stannard Fred (Freddy) Sweet and wife Sharon; sisters-in-law, Brenda Sweet, Julie Catlow, Sandra Carradine and husband Chris; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Marty Sweet, Corey Sweet, Eric Sweet, Brandon Lee, Ryan Arnold, and Chris Carradine.

Memorials may be made to the North Monroe Baptist Church Family Restoration Center.
