Funeral services for Mrs. Edith E. Shepherd, 87, of Monroe, will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, January 2, 2011, at First Christian Church with Rev. Randy Cook officiating. Interment will follow at Mulhearn Memorial Park Mausoleum under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Edith passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2010.She was a lifetime member for over 54 years of First Christian Church where she played the organ and sang in the choir for over 35 years. Mrs. Shepherd was a former member of a bowling league and a bridge club.
Edith was preceded in death by her husband, Harold King Shepherd; and two sisters, Lucille Foster and Babe Vest.
Survivors include her daughter, Carol E. Barton of Rock Hill, SC; sons, James G. Shepherd and wife Mary, and Harold K. Shepherd, Jr., all of Ruston, LA; grandchildren, Crystal B. Jones, Kelly Barton, Polly W. Shepherd, Susan G. Shepherd, Robert N. Shepherd, Lindsay Shepherd, Jessica S. Johnston and husband Jason, and GSM2 E5 Navy Seman Charles Dustin Stewart; great grandchildren, Jimmy Daniels, Madison Russell, and Charles Daniel Johnston; brothers, Lloyd Tate, and Forrest G. Tate and wife Linda, all of Chandler, AZ; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be James G. Shepherd, Harold K. Shepherd, Jr., Robert N. Shepherd, Jason Johnston, Delton Hearn, and Charlie Elliott. Honorary pallbearers will the Elders of First Christian Church.
Visitation will be from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM Sunday at First Christian Church.
