Graveside Services for Mr. Eddie Lee Gorum, Sr., 95, of Calhoun, LA will be held 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Hasley Cemetery, West Monroe, LA with Pastor Larry Roy officiating, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA.
Eddie Lee Gorum, Sr. was born September 19, 1921, and passed away at his home in Calhoun on December 22, 2016, twelve years after Sue, his wife, of almost 65 years. They are finally reunited. Edd was a man who could do nearly anything. He had a shop with almost any tool imaginable. He could work on vehicles and machines of any make or model. Edd built the home he and Sue lived in for the last 54 years with his own hands. Walls only came down when he and Sue argued about where to put them up. Many, many happy times were had in that home including many wonderful Family Christmases and Fourth of July barbeques with swimming and Mam-maw’s secret family sauce.
Edd served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943 until 1945 and was a member of the Navy SeaBees. He fought in the Battle of Peleliu and served as a Machinist 3rd Class and a Fireman 1st Class. After returning from the service, he worked for various companies but most notably was White Rose Rental Laundry, where he was manager for more than 25 years. He forged many friendships that were more like families that remain strong today.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Dock and Alice Gorum; his wife of 65 years, Sue Doris Mayes Gorum; and grandson, Robbie Phillips.
Survivors include his four children, Gloria Gorum Phillips of Houston, TX, Joyce Gorum McGee of Gary, TX, Judy Gorum Hodges and husband Duncan of Calhoun, LA, and Eddie Lee Gorum, Jr. and wife Becky of Calhoun, LA; twelve grandchildren, Debbie Nelson, Jimmy Phillips, Eddie Phillips, Tracy Simons, Laurie McGee, Linda Wrightson, Jeanie McGee, Trudy Hodges, Mark Hodges, Krisi Gorum Key, and Raeni Gorum Redding; twenty-six great grandchildren; and eighteen great-great grandchildren, who will miss their Pap-paw.
Pallbearers will be David Key, Matthew Redding, Trent Key, Bubba Oetgen, Stephen Hodge and Joe Dumas.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Marcus Elahi, Richard Glen Johnson, Bo Hollis and Henry Rogers.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until 10:30 A.M. on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe, LA.
Edd was cared for in his final days, in his home, by his granddaughters, Krisi and Raeni, his grandson-in-law, David, his great grandchildren, Courtney, Morgan, Matthew and Jacie, his son and daughter-in-law, Lee and Becky, and the staff of Heart of Hospice.
