Earl M. Cherry, Sr., 69, of Ruston, LA passed away unexpectedly on October 26, 2020 at the Northern Louisiana Medical Center.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Wednesday October 28, 2020 at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, LA
Earl was born in the family kitchen in Monroe, LA on July 19, 1951. His family jokes this is when his love of food began.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lillian Cherry and sisters, Betty Greene and Virginia (Jenny) Cherry, and brother, Henry Cherry, III.
Survivors: his wife and best friend of 32 years, Victoria Cherry; 6 Children, John Garner, Jr., Earl Cherry, Jr., Samantha Garner, Amber Garner, Michael Cherry and wife, Akayla, and Logan Cherry. He was honored to be called, Papaw, Pepper, Earla, Old Man, Poo Poo Pap Paw, and Nana Paw by his 12 grandchildren, Brianna, Adrianne, John, III, Jordan, Nathan, Madison, Cameron, Zachary, Brooklynn, Summer, Charlie, and Parker; 4 Sisters, Patricia Green, Betsy Cherry, Sherry Cherry and Wendy Cherry;
3 brothers, Dennis Cherry, H. L. Lafoon, and Richard Cherry.
As a young man, Earl proudly served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Midway. Later, he began his career at the U.S. Postal Service. He made many friends during his 28 years there until he retired in 2014. His favorite past time was cheering for and supporting his children and grandchildren at their sporting events. He also enjoyed watching wrestling with his youngest son. He has been a New Orleans Saints fan for decades and could be found yelling at the TV on Sundays. “To the man we call husband, daddy, papaw, and more, thank you for loving and always being there for us. You are now wrapped in God’s arms and tucked in our hearts. We love you!”
