Dr. Louis Robert Bedell

November 14, 1939 — October 31, 2019

Dr. Louis Robert Bedell passed away on October 31, 2019. Louis was born in Niagara Falls, New York, on November 14, 1939. He received his Bachelor of Science from Auburn University and his Masters and PhD in Physics from Brown University. He moved to Monroe in 1970 to teach Physics at The University of Louisiana Monroe.

He married Rosemary in 1964. They have five children and twelve grandchildren.

Louis was a doting husband, loving father and grandfather. He was a very involved father, participating in many activities with his children, including coaching many of his children’s baseball and softball teams.

He was proud of his children and grandchildren’s accomplishments, traveling across the country to participate in various ceremonies, graduations, and events.

He had a brilliant mind and was able to do almost anything he set his mind to, including building his home, fixing cars, repairing anything around his or his children’s houses.

Louis was a devout Catholic and member of Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church where he sang in the choir. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, awarded Chairman of the year by the United States Jaycees in 1970 and was honored for his service to the ULM Catholic Center in 2004 and St. Frederick High School in 1991. He served as president of the St Francis Auxiliary Board.

In their twilight years, Louis and Rosemary enjoyed traveling, visiting their children and grandchildren, square dancing and playing games with friends.

His children and grandchildren will always remember him as a gentle, loving and caring soul.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Mills Bedell; his children and their spouses, Julie Bedell DiPietro, Jennifer Bedell Johnson and Patrick Johnson, Anthony (Tony) Louis Bedell and Tricia Bedell, Dawn Bedell Morton and David Morton, Stephen Edward Bedell and Catherine Bedell; his grandchildren, Cole DiPietro, Ainslee Johnson, Christopher Johnson, Elizabeth Johnson, Griffin Johnson, Piper Bedell, Brooke Bedell, Morgan Bedell, James Morton, Marie Morton, Cody Clare Bedell and Madeline Rose Bedell; brother, Jim Bedell (Karen); sisters-in-law, Pat Rehkemper and Diane Herring.
