Funeral Services for Dr. John Bolling Jones III, 81, will be held Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church with Rev. Mark Watson officiating. Interment will follow the services at Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery, under the direction of Mulhearn Funeral Home, Sterlington Rd., Monroe.
Dr. Jones, who was a Monroe pediatrician for over 50 years, was born in Petersburg, Virginia, on August 4, 1928. He was graduated from Neville High School at the age of 16 and entered the Army-Air Corps shortly afterward, serving in Japan following World War II.
Upon his return, he attended Louisiana Tech and Tulane University and completed medical school at Tulane in 1953. He completed his pediatric residency at Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas, where he became Chief Resident of Pediatrics, and participated in specialized training in Boston, Massachusetts, and Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, before returning to his hometown of Monroe to join his childhood pediatrician, Dr. Ralph Talbot, as well as Dr. William Cookston to operate The Children’s Clinic, a long running pediatric practice on North 2nd Street.
Dr. Jones served the Monroe medical community for over 50 years, including one year as Chief of Staff at St. Francis Hospital. Since his retirement, he served as a volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul’s Pharmacy and has been very active at Jesus the Good Shepherd Catholic Church.
While a student at Tulane, he met his first wife, Consuelo "Connie" Hudkins and they married. Their marriage lasted over 50 years and resulted in five children, five grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She passed away in 2007. Dr. Jones later married life-long family friend, Pat Harbuck Sanders Jones.
Survivors include: Spouse, Pat Harbuck Sanders Jones. Two brothers: Dr. Lealis Hale and his wife, Jacque, and Col (Ret) Robert Jones and his wife, Jacky. Four children: Lawrence Anthony and his wife, Paula; Kathleen Frances Procell and her husband, Butch; Deborah Ann Sutton and her husband, Teddy Joe; and Charles Allen and his wife, Janet. (Dr. Jones was preceded in death by his son, Wayne Bolling Jones, who died earlier this year.) Five grandchildren: Mathew and Christopher Procell; Chelle Woods and husband, Darin; Amie Smith and husband, Brad; and Sarah Goubert. Three great grandchildren: Aidan Woods, and Allen and Hannah Smith. Two stepchildren: Jimmy Sanders and his wife, Nancy; and Lisa Hanna and her husband, Jim. Four step grandchildren: Raven, Hillary, James, and Robert Hanna and his wife, Dawn.
Visitation will be on Sunday from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and a Vigil Wake Service at 6:30 p.m. at Mulhearn Funeral Home at 2308 Sterlington Road, Monroe.
Pallbearers during the services will include Brad Smith, Teddy Joe Sutton, Brooks Dawkins, Warren Brennen, Drury Bynum, and Walter Pierron.
Memorials may be made to St. Vincent de Paul’s Pharmacy and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
