Dr. James "Jim" Leroy Padgett

November 6, 1930 — March 12, 2022

James ‘Jim’ L. Padgett went peacefully to be with Jesus on Saturday morning, March 12, 2022. James was born to Merl and Hazel Padgett on November 6, 1930. He graduated from Ouachita Parish High School. After graduating high school, he attended Louisiana State University and went on to graduate from Loyola Dental School in New Orleans. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Eglin Air Force base. On August 2, 1957, he married the love of his life Ann Maurice Boyd. Two weeks later they moved to Chicago, where he finished his education at Northwestern University in periodontics. Jim or ‘affectionately referred to as Dr. P’. started his practice in Monroe as one of the first periodontist in Northeast Louisiana in 1959, and retired after teaching dental hygiene at University of Louisiana in Monroe (NLU) in 1999.

Jim was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and uncle. He had a deep unfailing love for Jesus Christ that was evident to all that knew him. Jim modeled the Christian walk and had a servant’s heart putting others first. He was used in powerful way by God to win people to Christ Jesus.

Jim was a loving and devoted husband for 64 years. Ann was the ‘Apple of his eye’, as well as the object of some of his jokes. Dad had a great sense of humor and knew life was too short to take all things seriously. He was the perfect father and made it a point to spend time with his two sons Boyd and Cole. Dad raised us to work hard, pray hard, love others, and be a man of our word. He loved his daughter in laws Ginger and Marilyn. His grandchildren Matt and Beth were very special to him and always loved when they would visit. Prior to leaving this life he was blessed with his great grandson Elijah. Dad left an impression on all that knew him, and he will be missed.

He is survived by his wife Ann Boyd Padgett, Dr. Boyd and Marilyn Padgett, Cole and Ginger Padgett, grandchildren Matthew Padgett and Beth Valois and her husband Jake, and great grandson Elijah Valois. He was preceded in death by his parents Merl and Hazel Padgett, and sisters Charlotte Bolton and Patricia Cox.
