Dr. David R. Lawrence

November 29, 1941 — January 5, 2018

A funeral service celebrating the life of Dr. David R. Lawrence will be held Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at 4:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, West Monroe. The service will be conducted by the Reverend Jon Tellifero and the Reverend William Peeples. Visitation will be at Mulhearn Funeral Home, West Monroe on Monday, January 8, 2018, from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM. Visitation will be Tuesday at 3:00 PM until service time at the church.

Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Maxine Lawrence; father-in-law, Bill Winger; uncle, Ken Kirk; brother-in-law, Vern Freemore and a great nephew, Devin McCartney.

Dave is survived by his loving wife, Carole and two sons, Christopher David Lawrence, M.D. and wife Stacey and children Zachary David and Paige Emerson of Lafayette, LA, and Kirk William Lawrence and wife Sally and daughters Olivia Eleanor and Catherine Grey of Wilmington, DE. He is also survived by sister, Barbara Kelly, niece, Kim Smiddy and daughter, Erin of Cincinnati, Ohio, and nephew, David Kelly, daughters, Lauren and Victoria Kelly and grandson, Colton of Katy, Texas and mother-in-law, Eleanor Winger, sister-in-law, Billie Jean Freemore, niece, Sidney Garber and husband Scott and daughters, Layla and Macy of DePere, WI and last but not least, his loving canine companion, Buddy.

Dave was born November 29, 1941, and passed away January 5, 2018.

Dave was a graduate of Biloxi High School, the University of Mississippi, the University of Mississippi School of Medicine, and the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine. He did an internship at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center, Jackson, MS, and a Radiology residency at Arkansas Baptist Medical Center, Little Rock, AR. Dave served four years active duty as a major in the USAF where he was assigned to the 9th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron of the 75th Tactical Reconnaissance Group. He also served in the Arkansas Air National Guard as a member of the 184th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron, Fort Smith, AR.

In 1974, Dave joined the Radiology group of Drs. Ellis, Millsaps and Green at Glenwood Hospital, where he continued to practice for 32 years. He served as Medical Director of the group for 11 years and was elected Chief of Staff at Glenwood in 1977. He retired in 2006. He was a member of the American College of Radiology and the Radiologic Society of North America.

Dave was an active member of First United Methodist Church, West Monroe and the Chancel/Integrity choir. He cherished his dear friendships in the choir and he and Carole loved hosting the annual choir Christmas party for 20 years.

Dave was an avid golfer for 62 years with 9 holes-in-one to his credit. He particularly loved his golf time spent on the Mississippi Gulf Coast with his dear friends, Owen and Brent Moses, and golfing with the seniors at Calvert Crossing Golf Club.

A special thank you to all who supported the family through prayers, food, cards, calls and visits especially Owen and Jean Moses, Jim and Ann Murray and family, Rey and Ginny Yatco, George and Stephanie Schaeffer, Creighton and Kathy Chandler and Van and Barbara Westbrook, Jerry and Clara Sikes and Pat and Billy McClendon. Dave also wanted to recognize good friends Ricky Ward, John Pruitt, Larry Furlow, Stuart Hill, Donnie Pennington, Bo Wyatt, Fay Miller, Pat Wade, Shirley Russell and Barbara Myers, and physicians Harry Donias, Coy Gammage, Arthur Liles, Lee Miller, William Smith and William Zollinger.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church in West Monroe, the DeSiard Street Shelter, Family Promise of Ouachita or a charity of the donor’s choice.
