Dr. David C. Mayo
Funeral service for Dr. David Carlie Mayo, 96, of Monroe, LA, will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, March 27, 2021, in the chapel of Mulhearn Funeral Home Sterlington Rd. Monroe with Rev. Steve Wilson, Rev. Michael Mayo, Dion Young, Stacy Young and Heath Young officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in Mulhearn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Dr. Mayo was born on September 30, 1924, in Winnsboro, LA, and passed away on March 22, 2021, in Monroe, LA.
Dr. Mayo was a United States Army Veteran serving in World War II in the European Theatre. After his honorable discharge, he graduated from the International Bible College in San Antonio, TX in 1949. He then began his career serving the Lord as a Pastor in several Pentecostal Churches in North Louisiana including French Fork, Urania, Shreveport, and Bastrop. He was the founding pastor in 1969 of Bethel Pentecostal Church in Monroe, LA. He was honored over the years with Proclamations from Congressman John Cooksey, City of Monroe Mayor Abe Pierce and Governor Mike Foster for his service. David served as General Chairman of the Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ (ALJC) for 8 years. He loved spending time in the outdoors hunting and fishing with all his family members.
David was preceded in death by his wife, Ammie Del (Mollie) Mayo; son, Kenneth Gene Mayo; grandson, Kenneth Ryan Mayo; parents, John T. Mayo Sr and Tommie Bell McVay Mayo; siblings, John Thomas Mayo, Jr., Ruby Mayo Boothe, Everette (Shorty) Mayo, Charles Homer Mayo and Adren (Blue) Mayo.
Survivors: his children, Anise Young and husband, Hiram (Poochie), David C. Mayo Jr. and wife, Brenda, Paul L. Mayo, Michael T. Mayo and wife Nancy, and Gary Robin Mayo and wife, Amber; 18 grandchildren, Dion, Stacy and Heath Young, Keith Mayo, Jennifer Goddard, Brittany Raffray, Haylea Mayo, Melissa Mayo, Lance Mayo, Melanie Mayo, Ashlea Roark, Carley Morgan, Chad Mayo, Heather Callender, Kyle Mayo, Kasey Roberts, Grant Mayo and Brayden Mayo; 28 Great Grandchildren and one Great Great Granddaughter; Brothers, Billy Glen Mayo and James Mayo and wife, Rita; Sister, Katherine Jo Nobles and husband, Harlon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Dion Young, Stacy Young, Heath Young, Keith Mayo, Chad Mayo, and Kyle Mayo.
Visitation will be from Noon until service time Saturday at Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe, LA.
